Pupils and staff at Fivemiletown College are delighted to be one of twenty-three schools in the Mid-Ulster District Council area to have recently been awarded with the Eco-Schools Green Flag. It is an honour to see the eco-effort a priority within the town, with Fivemiletown Primary also recognised for putting the planet first. The Eco Schools Green Flag Awards for 2022 have been sponsored by educational supplies and learning resource company, Nexus. Photographed are the eco-committee who were rewarded by their co-ordinator Mr Clarke with pizza and chips. “Eco-schools has always played an active role within the curriculum. However, post covid the committee have harnessed the enthusiasm to embrace change. In many ways transformational changes are now becoming embedded in our daily practice.” As we now approach the end of this academic year, Vice-Chairperson Molly Rogers (pictured) presented all members with a hand-made goody bag. Furthermore, a recent election for 2022-23 sees Ellie Gillespie as new Chairperson, with Aurimas Lebedevas and Ella McCusker (pictured) as Vice-Chairs. Mr Clarke concluded by saying “I thank everyone involved this year in making FMT greener. The committee have worked tirelessly and shown their passion in all that they have undertaken. We look forward to next year where we can build upon a strong foundation now in place.”
