We had a wonderful afternoon celebrating the successes of our Senior pupils with staff, family and friends. Year 14 and Year 12 leavers returned to meet up with their friends and to join together on this joyous occasion.
Mrs Allen welcomed everyone and gave an overview of the year, highlighting some of the charitable efforts, pupil activities and achievements in and out of the classroom. The range of pupil involvement was staggering, and a wonderful testament to the dedication of so many staff and pupils.
Mrs Allen made reference to the fact that this year marks the 65th anniversary of Fivemiletown College — a Blue Sapphire Anniversary. Sixty-five years of learning, growth, and community. An important milestone that invites us to reflect on our past, celebrate our present, and look forward to a bright future.
She shared with the prize winners that their achievements are not just a reflection of their hard work, but a sign of the future they are shaping. "You are the next generation of thinkers, creators, and leaders — and we are incredibly proud of you."
Our guest speaker was Mr Jordan Garrity, a former pupil, who gave us an insight into his time at school and how it led him to become a Lead Software Engineer. Jordan spoke so fondly of his school experiences and gave credit to our school as a place where he learned to work hard, act honestly, communicate clearly and be kind. "Hard work always pays off" and "setbacks can be an opportunity in disguise for change" were two key messages that he left with us as he reminded our students to believe in themselves, keep learning and stay curious. It was a pocket-sized guide book for life, and resonated well with our young people!
Our 24-25 Head Boy, Corey Tener, gave us his initial impression of university life, thankfully it was favourable! He reminded our pupils to listen to their teachers and to value the relationships with them, as not everywhere can foster the environment that we have here.
Our 24-25 Head Girl, Victoria Campbell, shared how her involvement in extra-curricular activities at school pushed her out of her comfort zone and encouraged her to thrive in different situations. Her key take-aways for us were to "feed into the opportunities available at school" and a very fitting "hard work gives results!". Victoria’s involvement with Scripture Union at school has led her to Intern with them now, before she begins her Nursing Degree after Christmas. She reminded us of Proverbs 3 :5-6 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths." Wise words of wisdom indeed.
On these inspirational notes, we were all inspired to achieve and it was wonderful to then present our awards.
Each photograph tells its own story of hard work, family involvement, sacrifice and commitment. We applaud each Prizewinner and each family too.
